Yay for fireflies

Last night, we took our lawn chairs out to a viewing spot for the fireworks that end the Music at Moorland show. There were hundreds of fireflies in the trees, twinkling like Christmas lights.

I love fireflies. What's not to like about them?

  • They don't bite.

  • They are cute.

  • If you are gentle when you catch one, you can pet it.

  • Their butts light up.

  • It's such a nice indicator of summer when they show up, and so sad when you don't see them any more because it's getting to be fall.

This made me realize that the last time I saw fireflies was when I was five years old, and we were on a holiday in Greece. The nights were warm and soft, in the air one could smell the scent of all the flowers blooming in the area, and fireflies danced in the park nearby. They were really pretty. :)

I remember how much I loved to watch the fireflies (aka lightning bugs) in my backyard when I was younger. Most of them were yellow, but it was always a special feeling when I saw a green one or an orange one.

Pair that with the smell of a grill an oh mah gah it takes me back.

    Ah, summer.

Fireflies are one of the best things about summer. My sister and I used to go to the park down the street and catch them all the time. What I find sad is that there doesn't seem to be as many as before.
