The official pursuits of the diligent graduate student:

1. Running experiments
2. Analyzing samples
3. Having productive talks with the advisor
4. Pushing Back the Frontiers of Science
5. Reading journals
6. Writing papers

So, lab, are we diligent graduate students? *Arafel's lab falls over laughing and goes back to playing Dry Ice Hockey*

The unofficial pursuits of the diligent graduate student:

1. Scrounging for free food
2. Sleeping in seminars
3. Complaining about/arguing with advisor
4. Hiding in the library
5. Doing experiments Mother Nature Never Intended
6. Chasing persistent vendors out of the lab

*as she types, Arafel is scarfing down a perfectly awful pink-iced donut that she got from the Vendor Fair downstairs*

The only trouble with these vendors is that you have to listen to their schpiel before they leave the food behind. *Arafel pretends to be interested in the Brand New Thermometer! and quietly snags another sugar-bearing treat out of the jar*

Guess I am feeling silly today. :)

So what's your favorite hiding spot in the library? =P

Waaaay in the back, where I can sleep without being noticed. Also it is right by the radiator so it's quite nice in the winter. :)

LOL ! Now that sounds familiar !

Ever noticed how you must never meet the eyes of vendors, even when scrounging free pens or food from their stands. If you meet their eyes they immediately think you're interested in their products and will rope you in so you have to listen to their spiels for 5 mins. Grab the food and run says I. *grin*

Well at least you got nice eats for the thermometer talk.

lol, how true... you can't even make eye contact or they'll glom on to you like sharks going for the kill. It's no surprise that when they show up here, the entire lab scatters. :)

What you need is a distraction. Maybe have a friend make a loud noise, and then you can *grab* what you can and run. :)

or use the tested and tried old trick, scream "Look! Behind you!" When the vendor turns to invstigate, grab the food and pens and run for it. :)

LOL! Gonna have to try that.. the only problem is that I can't run too well these days.. step *CLUNK* step *CLUNK*

yeah the bionic boot does impede the progress but I do get around. Everyone effuses sympathy when they see it and all I want to do is scream, "Thanks for your nice thought but I can walk! Please ignore it, I know that I do!"
