"The Gates" in Central Park

Went into NY to see this today.

Maybe more later.

Legs hurt bad, time for sleep.

Oh, wow... I heard about Cristo's Gates on NPR several times, and I wished I could go see them in person ;_;.

I thought it was very impressive to see such a big effort for so short a time, and people seemed to be enjoying themselves, so that's a success in my definition.

Oh yeah, when I mentioned to my sister that you lived close enough to NYC to stop by on a Sunday afternoon, her face turned a whiter shade of green! :) She looked like she so much wanted to go back I wanted to give her a trip for Christmas.

Awwww, your poor sis! We did do a little shopping, but I think your sister would be going into a lot more boutiques than we did. Clothes are fun to buy but NYC prices are quite expensive. You can get some fun knockoffs on Canal Street, though. :D

Heh heh heh, I'll be sure to mention Canal Street to her. Are we talking market and stalls like Camden market here or just more reasonable but regular stores?

Re: Canal St. They are storefronts - little boutiques packed with all kinds of cheap junk. Knockoffs, jewelry, Chinese slippers and dresses and bags, scarves, all that stuff. The atmosphere is fun, like some kind of misplaced bazaar. It's very crowded and the shopkeepers want to get your attention so you'll buy something.

Argh, I wish flights were cheap!

Ah, that sounds like just the kind of stores my sister would love! I'll definitely recommend Canal Street to her. Is Canal Street on Manhattan? Sis has talked so much about NYC I've started to think it would have been a cool place to visit myself. We'll see if the Tokyo trip is canceled once again later this year, NYC might definitely be an alternative.

I can't come online tonight b/c I have to pack the last things for the move. The final stuff will be brought over this weekend.

It's worth going at least once - there's no other city in the US quite like it. :)
