Samurai Champloo 8

Let's post about something FUN!

Okay. After last ep's downer, this one was hysterical. Gangsta samurai with his own rap soundtrack? Jin getting pickled? Fuu obsesses over her boobs yet again? A Trigun moment wherein two very, very talented men show off their skillz with massive hangovers?

A quote for the ages? "All men are stupid, so be sure to dominate them from the beginning."

A LOWRIDER PIMPED-OUT PALANQUIN? BAHAHAHAHA! (so you wanna be a playa, but your ride ain't fly? you got to pimp my riiiiiide)

Plus, a little bit of Jin-history to keep us interested! And whoooo he is HOT. And who else loved that expression on Mugen's face at the end when Jin's laying down the smack?

This series gets better and better.

Jin is hot as hell. Jin is astonishingly sweet. Jin is all round gorgeous. There is little more to be said. Apart from that the show can be funny as all hell :-)

I love the way Mugen and Fuu push Jin around. I love the way he keeps catching himself from falling on his face in the bar. I love the way he's so impenetrable, and yet he cross-dresses to storm a brothel. It is the stuff great humor is made of.

[identity profile] fireceremony.livejournal.com 2004-10-12 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)

Yeah, the poor guy probably wasn't seeing much. When Mugen talks to the woman in the bar, Jin is just sitting there looking blank, probably b/c he can't see anything.

I imagine Jin either has 1) a dress up streak hidden somewhere deep inside him, 2) knew entering the brothel would lead to fighting and wanted to fight or 3) has problems saying no to any break-in plan, no matter how silly it is, as long as it has some logic to it. Hence, if a plan sounds rational, he's compelled to carry it out, even if it entails dressing up. :)

Arafel! I gots the CDs, yo! I went round to my parents' house to pick em' up yesterday. THANKS! THANKS! THANKS!!!!1111 <3

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2004-10-12 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
*giggles* Yay, I'm glad you gots. You will need the DivX codec to play them (pls forgive if I'm insulting your intelligence.) Enjoy!

I was planning to d/l the WMP codecs as soon as I get my broadband sorted -- will that work as well as DivX?

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2004-10-12 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
I don't claim to understand this whole business of codecs, but I think they're fairly specific. You can get the DivX codec at the DivX website (http://www.divx.com), though I would do some careful hunting to see if you can get just the codec and not all the garbage that goes with it (toolbar and player.) Once you've installed the codec, the AVI files should play just fine in WinAmp or MediaPlayer or whatever.

If you have some problems with the episodes encoded by Anime Forever (after ep 9, IIRC) you might need to download the XviD codec. Google it, it should turn right up. Happy watching! :D

I've had problems with some of the eps falling over in WMP, even when it claims to have the correct codec. They all play in VideoLan, though, without any hassle. It's user interface sucks, but it does come readily compatible with every codec known to humanity, which is a major bonus.

What are WMP and VideoLan? My curiosity is piqued.

Windows Media Player.

VideoLan is another free player - plays anything without the need to hunt down codecs, also available for Mac if you have stubborn friends :-)

I should just add that the interface only sucks on PCs. The Mac interface is lovely. Because some of us are not only stubborn, we have taste and discernment ;p

Damn, now she finds me everywhere....

you should have said you were hiding, petal. It's not like I'm looking outside my own friends list

*groans* You sound like my thesis advisor. For some reason, academic mucky-mucks love Macs. It used to drive us batshit because we'd all work on PCs, and then have to jump through hoops so he could view our presentations and reports on his damn Mac.

[identity profile] notowned.livejournal.com 2004-10-12 09:19 am (UTC)(link)
there's no reason that should happen any more, and one of the main reason you guys have Windoze to be misguidedly so superior about, is because there was the Mac *first*.

Yes, academics love Macs because they think they are computers for the simple-minded. They are wrong, of course ;p

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2004-10-12 10:00 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not superior about Windows - the Mac vs. PC debate is one of those pointless exercises, like sub vs. dub, Advil vs. Tylenol, great taste vs. less filling. Everyone's going to have an opinion one way or the other, and it's largely a matter of preference. :)

I feel Macs are better for graphics and graphics manipulation (certainly the graphics on the flatscreen display my bossman had were far superior to the PC), but I will add that we had massive crashing problems with all our Macs in the lab. The Mac labmates said it was because we didn't maintain our Macs properly. This is certainly true. But, we hardly maintained our PCs either. As for my professor bossman and the not reading Windows files well - he wasn't the most computer literate person in the world, but he thought he was. Maybe that explains something. ^_^;;

Windows Media Player

>_< Duh. brain on vacation.

Thanks for the download - right now Winamp is doing the job for me, but if it happens that I have to dl yet another codec, I might go with that kind of player.

Mmmm, the lowrider palanquin is so great! ;)) And the samurai rapper... wild! :D

Jin sort of revealed that he defeated his sensei during the chess match with the old mafioso in episode 4, remember when the old guy asks Jin if he ever beat his sensei with the sword and Jin refuses to comment on it. :) (I took that as a yes and the reason why Jin was roninized.)

I loved Fuu's face when the fruit pieces fall down on her pigtails and she sighs with relief, and then it's revealed that her pigtails were cut too! :D Poor Fuu!

It's lovely to see the way sword fights are animated. It's said that the light from a good sword (with pure metal) is blue, not white and that's how they've animated the sword fights. They haven't put much detail into it, you just see the quick swing and the flash of light. Much better way of animating it than slow and showing the blade itself, which is unrealistic (and the way they did it in Peacemaker).
