A new addition to the dictionary

Courtesy of my husband, who coined the term this weekend.

Crapulated: Made crappy where it wasn't crappy before by messing with it.

Used in a sentence: (on watching When Star Wars Ruled the World on VH1) "Oh, that's the crapulated version of Star Wars, not the original."

(in the crapulated version, Greedo shoots Han first. Which is not what happens, at all.)

scruffy looking nerfherder!!!!!!

yeah, hard to imagine a space pirate criminal would ever shoot someone out of cold blood.
but is it? Greedo did have a gun pointed at Han's vital organs. I say it was always in self defense.

Han shot Greedo before Greedo could shoot him. Why change it?

*annoyed* If those replace-the-actor shots are for real, then it's even MORE crapulated. Jeebus, can't Lucas stop messing around with a good thing? The reworking of some of the X-wing fight scenes was welcome, but tweaking the plot (re: Han and Greedo) is stupid.

Oh well, I guess I will be sticking with my old tapes...

*folds arms and growls* I hate the idea that Lucas has gone back and completely "improved" everything... You can't find the originals anymore! That really does piss me off. He fell... and he fell hard.

He's become Darth Vader.

Someone should have put the films up on a very high shelf and covered them with a tarp or something, so no one would mess with them. *sigh*

Are you guys getting the new SW DVDs that are out now? Or are those the crapulated :) version?

[identity profile] arafel.livejournal.com 2004-09-20 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think so - the DVDs that are coming out are even more crapulated than the re-release (see [livejournal.com profile] ramothhe's comment for a link.) I have the tapes of the originals and the re-release, so we'll leave it at that.

[identity profile] fireceremony.livejournal.com 2004-09-20 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)

Oh wow, they are? I had no idea they had been going through some post editing...!

I can definitely understand you're not eager to get the new release.

::sigh::

Lucas never heard that most important joke: how many artists does it take to paint a masterpiece? Two - one to paint it and one to hit him over the head when it was finished.

Lucas needs to be hit over the head. Like, ten years ago.

Seriously. It was ok to touch up the dogfight scenes, which I have no quibble with, but changing the plot... no. And why exactly did we need that Jabba the Hutt scene? It belonged on the cutting room floor.

My thoughts are along the lines that, hey, I can understand the man wanting to make artistic changes, but omgwtf. He's, like, alienating half the people out there.

Also. Why doesn't he just release the originals on DVD? I've read that he says he feels doing so would compromise his artistic intregity, at which point I make secret coughing noises behind my hand because, dude. 'Artistic integrity'? I respond with two words: 'Holiday Special.'

The man would make a mint if he would release both versions.

*wolfish grin* I have a copy of the holiday special. It's widely regarded as one of the worst shows ever to hit the airwaves. Mark Hamill had just gotten out of the hospital after his car accident, Carrie Fisher is stoned out of her mind, and Harrison Ford's all "get me out of here." And, the whole things in Wookiee.

And, agreed on the release of the original originals... *sigh*
