Weekend recap

1. GIP.

2. Finished watching Now and Then, Here and There over the weekend. All I can say is... wow. How terribly sad, and hopeful at the end. Shu is somewhat stereotypical as a character - of course he's going to be the role model - but at the same time, he turns and fights and still doesn't compromise his principles. Maybe will write more in another update where I can be spoily.

3. Had to go in to work over the weekend, and no sooner do I get home than I have to go back to take care of the 2-8 incubator that's presently at 12.2 C and requires cleaning out. Again. I swear, I need to get my name off this thing, because it's twice now in about three months that I've had to go babysit it.

4. Weekend with inlaws went okay. I got there in the afternoon after traipsing around Liberty Village outlets in the midst of a ferocious thunderstorm (looking for an umbrella for my husband, ironically.) Discovered that I do NOT like acorn squash, though with a mess of brown sugar on it, it might have been okay. We had the little party for Mom Q and brother-in-law, and they were very happy with their presents. Left at a reasonable hour. Wonders never cease.

Now, I have to go clean out the fridge. Again.

Ah, so cool that you're watching Imaboku. I think it's probably my favourite anime series, period (which prolly says something about me).

....you know, I finally realized that's Nabuca in your icon. O_o

I see you have a new icon :D

I really enjoyed NTHT as well, but it is a pretty heavy anime. The beginning of it almost comes off as fun and light-hearted (mostly because of Shu's character), yet the tone of the series seems to change quickly once he's transported to the other world. I really don't think I'll ever forget the part when

You're not kidding. I winced every time the rock hit his hand, and admired his convictions (even though I'm kind of on Sara's side on that one.)

I remember at right in the middle of the series, I thought, My god. Could anything actually turn positive after all this?

You know, I thought that too, but I also realized that in "mature" anime, you can pretty much expect the character you like to get whacked at some point. The Japanese ain't much for the happy ending.

There was always that thin thread of hope, and that's what kept me watching. And then Zazi Bars got trashed! And kids get shot! Lala Ru saves the day and bye bye Lala! And then we all go home, and Sara lives on without the benefit of Planned Parenthood.

But whoo, what a ride.
